This unique holiday cottage has been beautifully converted from an old Congregational Chapel dating back to 1829 and in the 1970’s it was sold as an artist’s studio and finally bought by the current owners in 2012 and they have done all the current renovations.
The renovation retained many of the original features, the old wooden church beams framing the high vaulted ceilings and the original arched windows of the open plan living area.
As you enter the cottage, the top floors open’s up in front of you and the lounge forms the bulk of the first floor. There are two large white sofas and a lovingly restored chair again in white, combined with the white walls and large windows the cottage has a wonderfully light, bright, spacious feel. The room also has a contemporary feel enhanced by the modern wood-burner, a cosy addition on winters evenings after a day on the beach or Exmoor. There is large flat-screen TV with Sky and an X-Box and a DVD plus a great sound system making The Old Chapel a very well-equipped cottage for home entertainment.
The kitchen/diner is up a few small stairs to a separate room to the right of the lounge. The kitchen is tastefully decorated with contemporary white units elegantly complimenting the duck egg blue work surfaces. In the middle of the kitchen is large dining table which can comfortably seat 10-12 people. There is also a full-size piano which is tuned and guests are welcome to have a go at tickling the ivories. The kitchen has a good range of modern appliances including, a fridge, a freezer, a dishwasher, a double oven, an induction hob, a microwave and a coffee machine. Downstairs at the house, in the separate utility area, you will find a second fridge, two washing machines and a tumble dryer.
The bedrooms are all downstairs and include a double aspect Master bedroom, with a king-size bed and a double wardrobe and chest of draws. The bedroom has a lovely en-suite bathroom with a walk-in shower, WC, and large wash basin.
The middle bedroom has a handy zip & link double bed so can be a twin with two full size single beds. At the far end of the cottage is a lovely twin bedroom with full-size single beds and loads of storage.
There is a very stylish bunk bedroom with a feature wall depicting the New York skyline. The final bedroom is another double beautifully decorated in soft pastel green colours with white bookcase and bedside tables and lamps.
Outside the Chapel has a large lawned garden with BBQ, and chimenea plus a swing and table and chairs. There is plenty of parking for 2-3 cars.
The Old Chapel is situated on the edge of the North Devon village of Goodleigh with a very popular village pub (The New Inn) which serves great food and local beer. The golden sandy beaches at Saunton Sands and Putsborough are only 20 minutes away as is the wild expanse of Exmoor. Barnstaple is 3 miles down the road and has plenty of good restaurants and pubs plus a multi-screen cinema and indoor tennis courts at The Tarka Tennis Centre.
